Afrimod has developed and patented a simple yet cost effective modular building system which facilitates the inexpensive and speedy construction of affordable housing. Afrimod Building Solutions have been developed over 20 years and have provided structures from simple one-bedroomed homes to multi-roomed buildings of over 240m².
Aesthetically there is no difference between a dwelling built with the Afrimod system and those built with traditional bricks and mortar. As shown the only significant difference lies in the construction of the walls, which are made from concrete panels - Lightweight concrete panels are bolted together to form the internal and external walls of single and double storey dwellings. The modularity of the system allows for assorted window and door sizes and various configurations thereof.
Traditionally concrete has very poor thermal qualities and can be very cold in winter and hot in summer. Through its R&D development programme Afrimod has developed a lightweight “Thermo-panel” which improves the poor thermal qualities of concrete, to produce a structure with thermal properties comparable to a traditional cavity or block wall.
The major benefit of this modular system lies in the construction time. Depending on the finishes required 3 to 5 times as many houses can be constructed in the time it takes to construct one traditional home from bricks and mortar.
All components for an Afrimod structure are manufactured under strict factory conditions. The concrete panels are produced in steel moulds which ensures not only speed of production but consistency and proper quality control.
