Afrimod traces its history back to Concretex, which was established in 1973 and played a pioneering role in manufacturing and erecting precast concrete walls and garages in the domestic market of the Western Cape. Palisade and security walling was later added to the product range.
A further first for the company and to the entire precast walling industry was the introduction of prestressed post uprights. This technology was introduced and perfected by Concretex in-house. This revolutionised the industry by providing a stronger, lighter support for precast walls. This had major repercussions throughout South Africa and this improvement is used throughout the country today.
In the early 1980’s Concretex acquired the Duoface range. This is a product with detailed finishes on both sides of the wall. This allowed both customer and neighbour to enjoy the same finishes on their side of the precast walls.
In 1985 Concretex invented and patented the Afrimod Building Solution. This building system is designed, manufactured and constructed for use as dwellings creches, school classrooms, studios, offices, garages and stores. Further refinements have been introduced through the years and the system has been extensively used in the affordable (low cost) housing market with 1000’s of houses completed and occupied by satisfied owners.
